I'm a 55 year old, leftist Vancouverite who loves the city, but I also need a regular nature fix. That means I frequent the Art Gallery, the Main Library's lectures, Vaneast Cinema, and the Stanley Park seawall. I'm semi-retired, so I have free time to read, exercise, socialize, and do paid/volunteer work of my own choosing: including social and environmental activism. I love music - both listening to it, and performing it. In the past, I've had some of my writing and photographs published, and I hope to again in the future. Classic rock, indie, jazz, classical, and world music are often "background sound" in my near-the-Drive apartment. I like gardening and organizing parties - which wins me friends and influence in my co-op. I don't have children, but some of my neighbours' kids are frequent visitors. I have wide-ranging tastes in the arts - except for most rap and opera. Intermittent health challenges have sharpened my priorities and increased my appreciation of friendship. In general, increasing truth and beauty, and decreasing suffering engage my passion and commitment. And of course, a balanced life includes lots of humour: Calvin and Hobbes, Northern Exposure, and jokes at one's own expense. Oh, and dogs and cats are very nice, but only at a distance, because they make me sneeze.
