I retired in June 2007, after thirty-five years of teaching and administration. When I announced my intention to retire, my high school students were absolutely shocked! Apparently my teenage pupils, who typically thought of anyone approaching fifty as being a senior citizen, assumed that I was much younger than my actual chronological age. In truth, even most adults typically underestimate my age by five to ten years.
I am a sophisticated, but unpretentious, energetic, playful, forward-thinking and articulate, hopeless romantic, who possesses a boyish charm, coupled with a mature, masculine resolve and an entrepreneurial spirit. I am genuine, personable, adventurous, kind, loyal, warm, inquisitive, and fun. I’m often described as being a uniquely communicative individual, who is as equally adept at listening to the wants, needs, opinions, fears, and feelings of others, as I am at expressing my own. The downside of this trait is seemingly my inability to conceal it. To that end, my contemporaries have drafted me into service as the foreperson of the jury on three successive felony trials!
My many interest include: candlelight dinners, sporting events, concerts (mostly classic and soft rock), theatre, movies, all types of travel (especially to warmer destinations), almost all kinds of outdoor activities including bicycling, hiking, camping, scuba diving, tennis, long, romantic walks, and picnics with wine and cheese. Now that I have the time, I’ll likely begin taking more lessons in golf and ballroom dance. Additionally, I’d like to revisit kayaking and skiing.
My friends and acquaintances generally consider me to be a highly competent handyman/mechanic. I own a fairly extensive collection of hand and power tools, and actually know how to use them. For many years, I have performed most of the upgrades, repairs, and routine maintenance on my own homes, my former rental properties, and my motor vehicles.
I have been divorced for over twenty years and, until very recently, had taken an extended hiatus from the dating arena, so I don't think that you'll find me dragging along too much in the way of excess baggage. I sincerely believe that I am emotionally prepared to share a mutually rewarding, monogamous relationship and romance with an intelligent, honest, sincere, enthusiastic, highly energetic, and optimistic woman, who is readily capable of appreciating the values of loyalty, integrity, and a great sense of humor. She should practice a healthy lifestyle, take pride in her appearance, and try to never take herself too seriously!
When I glance at my driver's license or passport, I'm always somewhat stunned that my chronological age is displayed as sixty-two years. I suppose that I can take some comfort in the fact that Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton are both a couple of years my senior, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and James Woods all share my birth year, and Richard Gere and Bruce Springsteen are only two years younger than I.
I am a firm believer in "no fault" dating. If we should decide to meet, and either of us feels, that the intangible, and often elusive, elements that constitute "chemistry" are absent, or insufficient in our pairing, we should both be willing to graciously accept that fact, without guilt or recriminations. The "fault" lies with neither of us...the "magic" simply isn't there.
