Many seek the "ultimate" explanation for man's existence. I've given-up on this philosophical quest - - I have no more ability to define a logical purpose for our existence than I have to understand the cosmos' never ending infinity - - or worse yet, what is beyond infinity if the cosmos is not, in fact, infinite.
Thus, for me, the goal of life is to enjoy it. And while that may sound a bit selfish, at least it make sense. I'll leave purpose and infinity to you.

Such a person will likely react with similar emotion to stories of human existence, both true and fictional, happy or sad. You have this 'gene' if you reach for Kleenex at a performance of Phantom or Les Mis or upon hearing the outcome of a week-long news drama . . . seeing 'the mom's' face as she learns that her young son, lost and feared dead on a camp-out in the mountains, has been found safe.
