I Would Describe Myself As
I grew up in the Metro Detroit area. Graduated Southfield High in 1959 17th in a class of 325, having never taken a book home. Went to Michigan Tech as a physics major and paid the price of never learning to study. Dropped out before I flunked out. Humbled a bit I returned home got a fun job designing relay controls for Pnuematic tube systems. Met and married my lovely wife Sharron. Went back to school, Wayne State, as a part time student while working a succession of full time jobs. Graduated BSEE in 1967 shortly after our daughter Rebecca was born. When I graduated I was working in Ann Arbor at a company developing military airborne reconnaissance radar, that job got me a draft exemption. We decided to build our dream house (See picture) in Hartland Mich. while I worked full time in Fenton Mich. I was the rough carpenter, plumber, electrician, HVAC installer, finish carpenter, painter etc. We moved in 9 months after starting the project just in time for our Son, Eric's first birthday celebration.
Eric was born with an ultimately fatal birth defect and only lived to be 18. The Hartland public schools were a disaster for Becky, who did every 8th grade math workbook Kmart had while she was in Kindergarten. To try and help her I got a gifted and talented program into the system by getting elected to the school board, Becky graduated high school at 13 with 4 semesters of community college courses counted as high school. She graduated BA from the U of M at 18. Shortly after we moved to Aloha Oregon because I had taken a job with a start up semiconductor company. In Oregon Eric finally found a surgeon willing to correct his anatomy. Unfortunately, the damage to his lungs was ultimately fatal.
We couldn't live in the home where he died so we moved to an overgrazed cattle farm 40 acres. and I became a part time farmer. I tore down all the rotting buildings and finished the unfinished house and in a few years built a huge new barn that housed 20 stalls, tack room and restroom and a 60' by 120' indoor riding arena With another 36' by 120' equipment shed then an adjacent 40' by 120' hay and manure storage. All my designs and my labor with a couple of helpers. My daughter worked as a social worker and lived with us, she got Married and had our Granddaughter while she pursued a PHD. Sharron provided day care for Kelly our granddaughter Then one day Becky disappeared and her husband moved out leaving Kelly, now 9 in our care. About 18 months later we hear from Becky, she now lives in Hazard Kentucky and has divorced Grant. she wants to see Kelly. Sharron, Kelly and I agree to take a motor home trip to Yellowstone and meet Becky. Our daughter literally kidnaped our granddaughter! When I retired Sharron and I decided we want to be closer to our child and grandchild so we sold the farm and moved to 28 acers in Science Hill Ky. Kelly and Becky now lived in Somerset. We used a GMC "greyhound" bus that I had partly converted to a motorhome to make 3.5 round trips from Oregon to Kentucky to move all manner of "stuff" Once in Science hill I finished the conversion and we enjoyed many trips in a really comfortable bus conversion, Sharron's health degenerated to where she couldn't comfortably travel. Becky then Kelly moved to Georgetown. Sharron and I followed to see our great granddaughter Willow. Sharron Passed on Nov.7, 2019. I was alone not happy at all. I joined match, kissed a lot of frogs in search of a princess. Found a fine partner, Alice, we lived together for 2.5 years till we agreed to separate so she could not burden me with her health issues and spend her last days with her dearly loved family. With Alice I moved from Georgetown to inside Lexington to be closer to medical care and many fun activities. I'm in generally good health enjoy singing karaoke and travel. I'm searching for my last love partner and a long term committed, fun, shared, life.
